Machining for Newcastle — from our Port Stephens workshop
Straight up: we’re not in Newcastle. Our workshop is at 12 George Road, Salamander Bay, in Port Stephens, about about an hour north depending on where in Newcastle you’re starting.
Newcastle has plenty of machine shops. So the honest question is why you’d send work up the highway to us, and there are only a few answers worth giving.
When we’re the right call
Your job is small and awkward. One part, no drawings, needed properly. Larger shops price one-offs to discourage them. We don’t — one-offs are most of what we do.
You need it quickly. The machines run lights-out overnight. Work keeps cutting after the shop’s locked up, and we’re not queuing you behind a production run.
There are no drawings. Reverse engineering from a broken sample is routine here. We measure it, model it in Fusion 360 and machine a new one. You can have the DXFs and the model afterwards if you want them.
It’s marine, and it’s metal. Aluminium hull repairs, 316 stainless rails and fittings, trailer work, propeller shafts and cutlass bearing housings. If your boat is up this end of the coast anyway, it makes sense.
You want to deal with the person doing the work. There’s Todd and one machinist. That’s it. No account manager, no queue.
When we’re not
If your job needs certification, a big team, or heavy structural work signed off by an engineer, use a Newcastle shop. We’ll tell you that on the phone. We’d rather lose the enquiry than take on something we shouldn’t.
Getting work to us
Post or courier a sample, drop it off if you’re heading north, or email drawings and a DXF and we’ll quote off that. A courier does a daily run for us between Port Stephens, Newcastle and Beresfield, so a part can be picked up from you in the morning and be on the machine the same day. Further afield, TNT overnight, charged at cost.
What we do
CNC turning, CNC milling, precision machining, one-off parts, reverse engineering, shaft and bush work, Fusion 360 design and DXFs. Sheet metal cut and fold through a partner facility, and welding and fabrication through the welders we work with — managed by us, delivered as one job.
Ring 0478 790 631 or email the drawing. Tell us what it is, how many, and when you need it. We’ll tell you straight whether we’re the right shop. 12 George Road, Salamander Bay NSW 2317. Mon–Fri.
